5 strategies to fight air pollution and allergens

Polluted air is considered responsible for allergies! We are not born allergic, but harmful substances around us enter the respiratory system, and from there into the blood, thus triggering allergies.

Air pollution is a major health threat. Microscopic air pollutants can penetrate deep into the respiratory and circulatory systems, affecting the lungs, heart and brain. On the other hand, certain infections, poor nutrition, stress, smoke or certain plant substances can cause allergies.

What can we do to protect ourselves:

1. Keep the air in the home and office clean

As much as possible, ventilate very often both at home and at work, so that allergens do not increase the likelihood of illness. You can install air purifiers in the home, with filters that keep pollen, dust and other allergens away!

During the pollen season, it is important to leave only enough air in the room. It is recommended to ventilate during the rain or after the rain, because the water will clean the pollen from the atmosphere.

Some houseplants are known for their ability to attract impurities from the air. For example, Peace Lily absorbs and removes methyl alcohol, benzene, formaldehyde, but also mold spores.

Another means of purifying the air is the use of salt lamps.

2. Beware of mites!

Mites are especially dangerous for allergy sufferers. These tiny creatures prefer to live in bed, where they find the necessary heat and humidity. That is why it is recommended to change the mattresses every seven to ten years. For those with allergies, there are also special mattress covers. At the same time, bed linen should be washed at 60 degrees Celsius.

3. Leave the bed undone

Even if it may sound strange, in the fight against dust mites, making your bed is a wrong move! As much as possible, allow yourself to be messy - an impeccably arranged bed makes it easier for mites to multiply, especially if the bedding has not been well ventilated beforehand, because the moisture gathered overnight enters the bed, under the blankets.

So, when you wake up, pick up the blanket, leave the sheet free and open the windows wide. Do not cover the mattress during this time so that moisture can be removed. If you could take out the blankets, pillows or the quilt to ventilate on the balcony or terrace it would be even better!

4. Avoid outdoor sports when pollution is high

Check the air pollution forecasts in the area daily to know when the air is unhealthy. Avoid exercising outdoors when the pollution level is high. In fact, always avoid exercising near areas with heavy road traffic. Give up jogging between cars, you are doing more harm than good! In addition, always have sunglasses, artificial tears, wipes and a bottle of water with you.

5. Wear protective masks, which filter the air you breathe

When there is a high level of pollution in the area or when a pollen allergy is triggered, use masks with a special filter, which removes contaminants from the inhaled air.
